Old Trousers: Rules for Warfare in the Horse & Musket Era
Welcome to our web site. This site is designed to support the Miniature wargame rules "Old Trousers: Rules for Warfare in the Horse & Musket Era" which is a rule set covering the Napoleonic Wars. The rules are free & are download able. "Old Trousers" was the British nickname for the French drum-call 'Pas de Charge.' "Old Trousers: Rules for Warfare in the Horse & Musket Era" is meant to be a fast playing set of battalion level rules. This set is not related to a set that was written by Howard Whitehouse & that appeared in the Courier in 1995 & was entitled "Old Trousers." That "Old Trousers" covered the Peninsular War.
An expansion for the Seven Years Wars is currently in the works & will be available sometime in 2002. In addition a set based on both the 1872 Kriegspeil Rules & the modern set "Regimental on to Richmond" by Tom Barkalow for the American Civil War is in the works as is a separate true army level set of rules (1 stand = 1 battalion & 1 inch = 150 yards.) The army level set will have modules for the Seven Years War, the Napoleonic Wars, & for the American Civil War. No completion date is projected for these but they are ongoing works.
Check 'The Author' for a general background on the rules. 'Design Details' addresses historical movement rates & other specifics. It links to photos explaining rules concepts. Go to 'Downloads' to obtain the rules.
The 1872 Kriegspeil Rules by W von Tschischwitz are now are linked to the Kriegspeil page. Once this section is completed then I will add on the 1880 American Kriegspeil set (STRATEGOS by First Lieutenant Charles A I Totten) & the American Kriegsspiel by Livermore.
OLD TROUSERS II The second edition of Old Trousers is now posted. The major change is in the order system & in cavalry melee. Each division will now be given an order chit which must be followed. Better commanders will be able to improvise by deviating from their standing orders. Cavalry melees are made simpler but still adhere to historic principles. Skirmishers are now a little less powerful. I have also included army lists for the Mexican-American War. Downloads
WARRIOR KINGS This rules set covers pregunpowder combat (up to around 1490 AD.) It is currently being developed for commercial publication sometime in 2005. For downloads & discussion go to:
