BECKLEY / SIMMONS / KILGORE KINSHIP

Use this data with the usual caveats - it has been assembled from a multitude of other sources, including other people's gedcom files. If you have any questions, contact me and I will provide the best sources I can.
HUGE thanks to my cousins David Boggs, Barbara McLain, and George Nolta. Also big thanks to Peggy Hayse for providing most of the Kilgore photos. Kudos to the compiler of "The Kilgore Book," (unpublished) who researched most of the data for the Kilgores in California, and who did it all before the advent of the WWW!

Notes for Jonathan William SIMMONS

Jonathan Simmons

Ancestry.com - Yuba, Sutter, Colusa, Butte, and Tehama Counties, California Directory, 1885
lists a Jonathan Simmons as a farmer in Leesville, California. This fits with the Laurie VanDeventer-Hoberman message which said that Harriet Simmons and William Beckley owned or ran a hotel in Leesville. And Clara Simmons was born in Leesville.>

"Grace’s father, John Simmons owned some acreage near Stonyford in the foothills west of Colusa. There was an old Roadhouse with some cattle. I have been up there recently. It is in ruins but you can see evidence of what it was like. It was a two-story hotel. This place was near the hot springs area and it was a stage stop. A newspaper article I have states that he began that stage in 1862. Therefore, if his wife Eliza was born in 1858, he was quite a bit older than she when they married. My grandmother told me that her father was a bit older. The family photo taken at the Annand ranch shows that. Eliza, though she looked much older was in her early 40’s. (As a letter states from Louise Anderson[Actually, Louise Farnsworth - RB], a daughter of Clara.) He clearly looks as though he was in his 60’s. They ran the Roadhouse until the late 1880’s when they moved to Colusa and began farming with his sons. My grandmother was born in a house in Colusa. It had burned down after her parent’s death. "
1919,
in Colusa, CA. Information on his first marriage was not known. He married
the second time about 1874 to Eliza F Nolin. She was born on 18 Sep 1857 in
Sutter Co., CA and died 5 Nov 1915. She is buried in Colusa, CA.
